“Environments” will be the theme of the 21st biennial conference of the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England, planned for 28-30 June, 2023 at the University of Manchester. This conference will take place on campus with an opportunity to present and attend online. Attendees should be members in good standing of ISSEME (become a member here).

Francesca Tinti (Universidad del País Vasco)

Katherine Weikert (University of Winchester)

Programme & Abstracts

You may consult the programme of the conference here. Please, be aware that this programme is provisional and still subject to minor changes. The book containing all the abstracts is also available for your convenience.

More information about registration will be made available soon. We anticipate that the costs for the conference will be about 60-90 GBP for on-campus and 45-60 GBP for online; with a reduced option of 30-45 GBP and 15-30 GBP for students and unwaged (N.B. these amounts include coffee/tea, but do not include lunch or accommodation and, importantly, are not yet official!).

Samuel Alexander Building (Oxford Road), Manchester. Rooms t.b.a.

The conference will not make accommodation available through the University of Manchester, since it would neither be cheaper nor more convenient than accommodation available elsewhere. There is a wide range of options for staying in Manchester, so we are confident you will be able to find something suitable to your needs.

Flats are also available on Airbnb, but if you choose that option, make sure that the flat is located somewhere convenient, since the website sometimes lists properties located far away in Greater Manchester.
