Update on ISSEME 2023

We are very excited to update you about our 21st biennial conference which will take place at the University of Manchester (28-30 June, 2023), in the Samuel Alexander Building (Oxford Road, Manchester).

Programme and book of abstracts

The full programme of our conference (with 3 keynotes, 40+ papers and project reports) and a book of abstracts is available on our conference website:
https://isseme.org/manchester-2023/ . As you can see, it promises to be an exciting and enriching conference about various aspects of early medieval England!

Registration fees

We are working hard to get the e-store up so that you can registering for the conference. We expect that the online registration will be available from mid-May onwards. We can already announce the fees for the conference so that you budget accordingly:

  • Full on-campus fee: 120 GBP
  • Reduced (students, unwaged, etc.) on-campus fee: 60 GBP
  • Full online fee: 60 GBP
  • Reduced online fee: 30 GBP

These fees help pay for the conference location, keynotes, coffee/tea, student-assistants, etc. The registration fee does NOT include lunch or accommodation. In case of financial duress, members can contact our ED Elise Louviot for the fee to be waived.

Pre-conference ECR workshop at ISSEME 2023 (27 June)

ISSEME is sponsoring a pre-conference workshop for eleven selected ECR participants on the topic of ‘Sharing Your Research: From Publication to Public Engagement’. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the people who are making this possible: the editorial team of the journal Anglo-Saxon England (Cambridge University Press), Meredith Carroll of (Manchester University Press), as well as Megan Cavell and Jennifer Neville (University of Birmingham; Royal Holloway; The Riddle Ages). We hope this experience will help the selected participants in their careers and we look forward to meeting them during the conference!

Publishers at ISSEME 2023 and an opportunity to participate in our ‘book launch event’

During the conference, there will be representatives and book stalls of a number of important publishers in our field: Boydell & Brewer, Brepols and Manchester University Press. We would also like to offer anyone an opportunity to participate in our plenary ‘book launch event’, where participants will be able to briefly pitch their book (series) (and/or offer any specific discounts) for all attendees of the conference. All we need is your name, the name of your book and a powerpoint slide. If you are interested, send an e-mail to Thijs Porck (m.h.porck@hum.leidenuniv.nl ).

We look forward to seeing many of you at our conference!
